9 Reasons You Fail at Your Health and Fitness Goals l #2 Don’t like it! If only I had a $1 for the number of times I have been told, but I don’t like to exercise or I don’t like vegetables. I get it. When you start a fitness routine it can feel like an extra chore added to your already busy day. Besides having to make time for it you will sweat, and feel sore. One of the first things I do with a new client is give them a Questionnaire so I can determine what program may be the best fit for them. One of the questions on there is to list what type of workouts you have enjoyed in the past or at least not hated. Choosing something you at least not hate is important when you first start out or else you will dread it everyday. Guess what that leads to? Quitting especially when things get hard. When you first start out and already don’t like exercise it is more important to do something you will do so you will stick with it long enough until you do enjoy exercising. Yes over time your mind will change. Of course you may never certain types of exercise and that is fine. I use a streaming service kind of like Netflix but for health and fitness and have access to many different types of workouts which really allows me to help someone get started off with something that will work for them.

The same goes with the nutrition plan. When you are eating from a fast food line or a box 3 times a day everyday eating real food may be quite hard at first. You may need to try new things and cook things in different ways until you find something you don’t hate. I hear this a lot about vegetables and even though I have always ate vegetables it was something I still needed to work on getting more of. The tips I have for you if you are a picky eater would be to take baby steps. You don’t have to go all in when you are just starting. Gradually replace white rice with brown, add chopped vegetables to a casserole, or grill instead of fry your chicken. These slow, but consistent steps will compound over time.


When you struggle with the not liking or even hating eating healthy and working out this is when you will need to sit down and really think about why you are wanting to succeed with your health and fitness goals. Not just to look good in a dress or to “be healthy”. You need to think deeper than that. Why is it important to you? For example are you pre-diabetic and need to avoid being on medications? Why is that important? So you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars per month on medicine? Why? Will that make it harder on your family financially? For me I can’t let Cancer come back. I can’t put my kids through thinking I will die. It upsets me even thinking about that. I was also sick of wishing I felt good about my body and was tired of being tired! I have a lot of whys!  It is almost impossible to stay committed  to do ANYTHING unless you know your “WHY”.  Your “why” is the REAL reason, the DRIVING reason that you WANT to change. So spend 30 minutes sitting down thinking about why you want to change.

  4. Accountability and support. You don’t have to do this alone – and you shouldn’t have to. A big reason you’ll see results is because you’ll have the support and accountability to KEEP GOING from myself, and others on the same mission as you.
