This is my story about my struggles with adrenal fatigue, stress, weight loss, Cancer, and leaving Beachbody. I was on a downward spiral with a very cynic attitude, but I did a complete 360 and changed not just my own destiny, but a legacy for my family as well.
How did it all get started…
I wasn’t always overweight, but literally my whole adult life I have struggled. Each pregnancy I ballooned up vowing to lose it each time; you name it I probably tried it. I really regret all the yo-yo dieting I did over the years. I do see now that it only made things worse.
Like most moms, I have put the needs of my family first and slowly but surely letting myself go I crept up to just under 300 lbs. I stopped taking pictures with my family, because of how I saw myself. I found myself sitting on the couch watching my life pass me by instead of enjoying my family.
It was much more than weight loss…
Daily headaches, IBS, and I was exhausted all the time. Sleep was pretty much nonexistent. I got winded with household chores like collecting laundry. I finally got to the point that enough was enough. So, I went to the doctor found out I had high blood pressure, was pre-diabetic, and also that was in stage 3 Cancer.
My world was crumbling around me. I thought I was just going to lose weight, but then I had this curveball. I still had 4 kids at home and I can still remember getting the news on my phone in a parking garage. I thought I was handed a death sentence.
That is when I started to fight literally for my life. After a battle of chemo, radiation, and surgeries, I was able to return home to make some HUGE changes in my health. I knew It was that or leave my kids without a mom.
So I saw a Beachbody program on an infomercial and committed to it. I lost a little weight, felt a little better, and wanted to share what seemed to be working for me with other women. But the more I worked out, the more I drank the shake the more exhausted I felt.
I kept trying I didn’t want to be a quitter again. I was drinking their pre-work Energize even on non-workout days. I was up to 3 scoops which was 3 servings. I still wasn’t sleeping. I felt really defeated inside and ashamed because I was promoting something that wasn’t even working for me.
The turning point…
One day a friend of mine had posted on Facebook about a plant-based drink that was helping with sleep. I immediately wanted to know what it was so I could try it. My sleep was so terrible that I woke up 5 times in 6 hours. I felt that sleep was my root problem. So I tried it and for the first time I slept an entire night without waking up once .
I laughed it off, I thought it was a fluke and it wouldn’t happen again. But thankfully it did. I decided to try some of the other products. Then I researched the heck out of the company, the products, everything. I thought there was no way this stuff was working and good for me. I was dead wrong.
No more putting a band-aid on it…
I found my root cause to not be sleep. Sleep was just a symptom. Chronic stress was a possible cause, but my root problem was I was struggling with Adrenal Fatigue. There is no “quick cure” for Adrenal fatigue and no pharmaceutical meds to help. But these plant-based supplements and adaptogens were helping me.
From here I decided to go back to school and learn more about holistic wellness, nutrition, and exercise the whole mind body and soul. I was learning how to heal not just my body, but the women’s I was working with as well. See weight loss comes when your body is getting what it needs. Mine needed a lot.
But the thing is everyone is different and has different needs. I couldn’t support the theory that there was one thing that would solve everyone’s problems and help them lose weight. I had an ethical dilemma. To me, Beachbody’s workouts encompassed everything I needed in a workout and I could do it from home, but I could no longer promote the “one shake for all anymore”. I knew it wasn’t what I was needing and couldn’t say it was what you needed either.
Needless to say, my life has done a complete 180 over the last 8 months. First of all I’m no longer struggling with adrenal fatigue. I’m still on a weight loss journey, but I’m in a position now to actually lose weight and keep it off. As I share about my journey I find that there are so many people who also struggle with adrenal fatigue, stress, sleep issues, hormonal imbalances, and lack of energy. Everyone is different and that means that there isn’t just one thing that will work for everyone.
Changing my family’s legacy…
The thing is I had built a business around Beachbody. My husband had lost his job and was on unemployment and I took a big leap of faith when I decided to change companies. And it got worse to test my faith too. After I signed up with Solle Naturals his unemployment ran out, the house that we were living in was a rental and the owner lost it in bankruptcy and we had to move out. We were only living on my income with 3 kids at home. It was hard, but I had to go with what I thought was right for me.
I can’t tell you I’ve been able to take my family on vacations or bought new cars, but my new business kept food on our table and bills paid and that was important in a time we needed it the most. So that is my story.
