Today is International Self Care Day. I want to share with you 5 simple self-care tips for moms you can do today. Us moms are constantly pulled a million different directions, finding ourselves far too busy to get done what we need to get done. This seems to leave such little time to take care of ourselves.

Typically the busier you are the less you do for you and the more you are taking care of your family. It’s natural to put your kids first, but you can’t neglect yourself completely.  You’re important too! I hope these simple tips will give you some much-needed self-care to get you back to feeling your best.

5 Simple Self-Care Tips for Moms

1) 3 Daily Wins

Daily life as a mom is hectic to say the least. We go to bed thinking about all the things that we should have done differently. We also think about all the things we need to do tomorrow, next week, or next month. Sometimes that bears down on us like a ton of bricks and that can really make us feel unhappy. A self-care tips for moms that I share quite often is to sit down and think of three daily wins every night before you go to bed.

These are three things that happened in your day that went right. Sometimes this is a struggle to come up with especially if you have had an incredibly stressful day. I know how important it is to my mental health so I do it anyway and so should you.

Some examples could be that you arrived on time to where you were going. Or that your husband actually put the toilet seat down. Or that you didn’t yell at your kids for overflowing the kitchen sink. These are incredible wins so definitely think about those before going to bed. The more you think about your day in the positive the better your mental state is going to be. I would love for you to share your three wins for today! Just comment them below.

2) Get in Daily Physical Activity

Physical activity can help your body release endorphins which can improve your mood and increase your energy. Do you believe in the saying no one is happy if momma isn’t happy? Being in a better mood helps the whole family be in a better mood. And what momma doesn’t need more energy?

It’s good to keep yourself active. However, depending on the age of your child you may get more than your fair share of activity. If this is you then your good to go!

If not do whatever activity you enjoy that gets you active. This doesn’t have to be a “workout session” unless that is what you want. Sometimes getting out of the house and to the gym is just what you need. But if that makes you cringe even thinking about it you could walk around the park with your stroller. Or do yoga in the morning before your kids wake up. My favorite was putting on music and dancing it out with the kids. My kids always loved dancing with mom!

3) Prioritize Sleep

This is probably the most important self-care tips for moms I have on this list. It’s tempting to try to make the most out of the time when your kids are asleep, but it’s important to get sleep yourself. The Director of UCLA Sleep Disorders warns mothers of the risk of limiting their sleep:

” We know from research studies that chronic lack of sleep has adverse health consequences: people who consistently sleep less than six hours experience increased appetite, which causes weight gain and increases the risk of depression, cardiovascular disease, and type two diabetes.”

Sleep is a crucial part of your mental and physical health. Getting the appropriate amount of quality sleep each night is one self-care tip for moms you can’t afford to miss out on. I have a blog series on How to Get More Sleep and you should totally check out for some things you can start doing tonight to get much better sleep.

4) Eat for Your Health

Eating for your health is an important self-care tips for moms.  You can experience both short-term and long-term effects by eating healthier regularly. I know it’s tempting to go for the quicker, unhealthy option for yourself. But if you take into consideration what your body needs then you will have a better immune system,  feel more energy, and have less health conditions. Moms don’t have time to be sick!

You can still have nutritional meals without spending a lot of time preparing them. You can throw things into the crockpot first thing in the morning and it will be ready for you at dinner. You could shorten your cooking time using an Instapot or an air fryer. You could also pick up things from the grocery store that is partially prepared like a Rotisserie chicken, pre-bagged salad, or a pre-packed Roast kit.

This will also set a positive example for your kids and provide them with better overall health. Extra bonus tip get the kids involved in preparing the food you will have less of a fight getting them to eat it and hopefully save you time in the future when they are doing some cooking themselves.

5) Stay in Touch with Those Close to You

Taking time to nurture important friendships and relationships is a crucial part of your self-care. This is especially true if you spend all day at home with very little adult conversation.

It’s not always easy to pay them a visit, especially when they live far away, but there are other, simple ways you can still connect. You could call them for a few moments when you’re doing dishes or taking a walk once or twice a week and keep in touch. You could chat on social media. I know I have used Facebook to connect with so many new and old friendships.

You could join online groups with other moms. There are so many different Facebook groups you could check into. There are groups based on the ages of your kids, homeschool groups, and interest groups you could search for. I have a couple of awesome communities you are welcome to join. I have a group for women looking to improve their health called Journey in Wellness. I also have a community for moms that also run their own business or side hustle alongside the chaos of motherhood called Moms Mastering Business.

Wrap it Up…

As a mom, you probably struggle to find time to yourself. You put your kids before yourself, which is commendable, but it leaves a void in your self-care routine, resulting in your neglecting yourself. I hope these few, simple self-care tips for moms will help you find a way to squeeze in some YOU time during your hectic life.

You are important, and your needs deserve to be valued. You can easily improve your mental and physical health by integrating these simple self-care tips for moms.

I love the idea of sharing three wins. Self-care is so important, but is hard for me to do at times. When I force myself to practice self-care it is so worth it in the end. Thanks for these ideas.

    My three wins
-Getting my family out of the house and on time to an appointment
-Having a nice dinner with my extended family.
    – Taking some time for me and listening to an audio book during a long drive (sometime in the future I will have time to read an actual book!)
