When it comes to the digestive disorders the symptoms are not always black and white. Would you think chronic acne is a problem with your gut? Probably not! Sometimes the symptoms don’t always match what we think the problem is. Take a look at my blog Do you have these Signs of Digestive Problems? for some symptoms that point to problems in your digestive health.

Digestive health is a specific part of your health that includes how well you digest your food without disturbance. It also includes how well you absorb the nutrients in the food that you’ve eaten. When you look at that process closely, you can see that it plays a massive role in your overall health. That is why it should come as little surprise that digestive health is more than just how hungry you are, and whether or not you’ve had enough brussels sprouts.

Top 5 Common Digestive Disorders (These are not in any particular order.)

#1 Hemorrhoids

There are few experiences that are as upsetting and frightening as it would be to reach back to wipe yourself, only to retrieve a handful of blood-soaked toilet paper. While this image is certainly shocking, this is often the first sign of hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are extremely inflamed veins in the rectum and around the anus. It is uncomfortable to downright painful.

Hemorrhoids are caused by poor hydration and nutrition, autoimmune disease, and a host of other illnesses. It is common to experience hemorrhoids after childbirth due to the strain of pushing. Fortunately, there are a large number of safe treatments that you can use to help lessen the discomfort. Getting lots of proper hydration, eating more fiber, and probiotics can go a long way to help reduce inflammation.

I personally loved the sitz baths in the hospital after delivering my children. It really helped to relieve the pain. Luckily you don’t have to go to the hospital to access a sitz bath. You can order one like the LifeVV Sitz Bath Over-the-Toilet Perineal Soaking Bath from Amazon.

#2 Celiac Disease

In the last decade or so, gluten sensitivity has become an intensely debated topic.
Today a lot of controversies still surrounds Celiac disease. Much of this is due to the massive amounts of marketing that employed heavy usage of the term, gluten-free.

Celiac disease is a serious condition that is characterized by an intense sensitivity to gluten. It causes the body to destroy villi in your intestines. These villi are responsible for the essential process that extracts the nutritional benefits from the food you eat, allowing you to live. The symptoms of celiac disease range from diarrhea to scarier things like seizures. But all of the symptoms are in the category of serious illness and can signify something life-threatening.

Going gluten-free usually helps with this digestive disorder. There are many alternatives on the market today giving you a lot more choices than there once were. But beware some things are marked gluten-free that wouldn’t have even had gluten, to begin with. It is a marketing strategy to get you to buy it thinking it is healthier for you.

#3 Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

Digestive disorders don’t always hurt just our gut. GERD, or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease is the persistent action of stomach acids traveling up the esophagus. This condition makes enjoying food so much harder. You have that burning from your chest up to your mouth after you eat. It affects a large portion of adults in the world and can be caused by a wide range of disturbances from emotional issues to physical issues. It is actually more common if you are overweight. GERD can be treated with dietary restrictions, dietary additions, and supplementation.

#4 Leaky Gut

Leaky gut happens in the pores of your intestinal lining. Over time, with strain and inflammation in your intestines, your intestinal tract can become more porous. This means that the tiny pores throughout the lining are now becoming more open allowing waste and toxins to leak out.

One of the first things that may clue you into having leaky gut issues is actually your immune system. You may find yourself getting sick more often, having bowel issues, or having ongoing issues with digestion.

The reason for this is due to how your intestines work. The lining actually provides a barrier to keep your immune system safe from toxins as they exit the body. If the toxins are leaking out of the now porous areas of the lining, then you are leaching that fluid into your system spreading throughout your body.

The toxins are coming in contact with your immune system and causing you to be sick more often. Since this is ongoing there is reduced chances of getting better or moving on from the illness itself.

Healing a leaky gut will take a few different steps and time. You will need to remove certain things from your diet like caffeine, dairy, processed foods, and shellfish. Eat clean whole foods and try more fermented foods. Then add supplementation like omegas, probiotics, digestive enzymes, and other healing herbs. I can actually help you with the supplementation recommendation. Just take this Health Assessment and I will get you more information.

#5 IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Some people have digestive disorders that make it difficult for them to eat certain types of food because the ingredients in some dishes can irritate the digestive tract and cause it to become inflamed. If this is the case, then it could be very possible that you suffer from a condition called irritable bowel syndrome or IBS.

If you have abdominal pain that is accompanied by a sudden change in your bathroom habits, this could be a sign of IBS. Sometimes you may be running to the toilet right after you eat. Other times you may just feel pain and bloating. You might also feel like you haven’t completed a bowel movement.

Your goal if you have IBS is to produce a gut environment that is less likely to become inflamed and make it more difficult for the IBS to have flare-ups. This too can be resolved with nutrition and supplementation. I’ve seen huge success myself with healing my IBS with herbs. I had IBS so bad that I pretty much couldn’t leave the house before noon. I had to be near a toilet all morning. My gut would just roll with pain shortly before needing to go. The Fresh Start Detox is the program I created around what I used to heal my gut.

What can you do if you have one of these digestive disorders?

We have a good friend that has had celiac disease for years. I got him a shirt for his birthday a few years ago that read “i Was Gluten Free Before It Was Cool”

My wife developed a gluten issue while she was pregnant with our son. As soon as he was born, her stomach fortunately went back to normal.

Very informative article. I have a son who is gluten-sensitive but not celiac thank-fully. Gut conditions seem so much more common now and I totally agree with you that these quick-fix detoxes are not the solution.
