13 Hacks to Help You Drink More Water

I know you have probably heard “Drink more water” probably all your life. For years all I can remember hearing is that drinking 8 glasses of water a day was what was suggested. Now experts are saying to drink half your body weight in ounces per day plus add additional water if you are out in the heat or exercising. That can be quite a bit of water for some people. I have heard from so many people that it is a huge struggle to get that much water in every day.

First, let me say I totally get the struggle. I have not always been a water drinker. I use to drink a can or two of Coke a day and that was all the hydration I got. I know how terrible that is now! I kicked the soda habit about 12 years ago and my organs have been so thankful for the change (especially kidneys and skin). I used to get a UTI every single month and now I can’t even remember the last time I had one.

Hydration is super important for so many of your body’s systems to work properly as I specifically covered in So today I want to share with you 13 Hacks to help you drink more water every day. It is part 3 in a series on “How to Drink More Water”. Be sure to check out the other parts I have the links below.

13 Drink More Water Hacks to Use Every day

  1. Make drinking water convenient by having it cold (unless you don’t prefer cold), readily available and close by. You can prepare a jug or pitcher and have it in your fridge. Carry a water bottle with you everywhere you go.
  2. Sip it with a straw if that makes it easier.
  3. Get a new fancy water cup that you will LOVE carrying around with you. I prefer glass when I’m at home, and I take a reusable water bottle to go.
  4. Filter your water for better taste and for filtering out impurities. I use the Pur Water system and get the filters on Amazon since it is almost half the price of Walmart. Here is a link to the Pur system and the 3 pack replacement filters.
  5. Reward yourself at the end of the day when you have reached your water goals with something like a relaxing bath, or time to read a book. At the end of the week go get a mani or pedi.
  6. Set an alarm on your phone to remind you to drink a cup of water.
  7. Set up mental triggers to drink water such as 30 minutes before each meal, snack and other beverage, after every trip to the restroom, and when you feel hungry or tired.
  8. Eat spicy foods since they tend to quench your thirst for more water.
  9. Eat more fruits and vegetables since they have a high water content (I will name some specific ones tomorrow).
  10. Dilute the sugary drinks (this includes fruit juices) that you already drink with water and ice.
  11. Enhance the taste of water with fruits and vegetables (I will share some recipes tomorrow along with other enhancers).
  12. Join a water challenge to win a prize for staying accountable (like the one I’m having right now read below).
  13. Ask a family member or co-worker to support each other and even have a friendly contest where the loser buys the other water (or dinner).
